The cold weather has come to Champaign, but it’s only going to get worse. That’s why it’s important to gear up and make sure that you’re prepared for winter. Get cozy and stay warm this holiday season with these cold-weather tips.

Cold Weather Clothes to Wear

Put on Layers: Prevent frostbite by layering up first and foremost. When it’s really cold, pack on as many clothes as you can to give yourself all of the padding you need.

Buy Touchscreen Gloves: If you use your phone as much as we do, you’ll want to get some touchscreen gloves. These gloves will save your hands from the cold while letting you keep sending Snapchats.

Blanket Scarves: Blanket scarves can keep your neck, face, and body warm – the essential accessory for the cold winter months.

Water-Resistant Snowboots: When you’re going outside, you’ll be thankful to have a pair of heavy-duty, water-resistant snow boots to wear. They can be a lifesaver for any high-intensity snowball fight.

Tips for Driving in Cold Weather

Drive Slow: Nothing can keep you safer when driving in the winter-time than simply being a careful and cautious driver. Drive slow and keep an eye out for ice on the road.

Put Snow Tires on Your Car: When you hit those really slippery roads, make sure that you have snow tires to put on your car. They are the ultimate prevention for any unexpected problems getting traction.

Keep Kitty Litter in Your Car: If you get stuck, kitty litter is a great tool for help you out. Pour some kitty litter behind your tires to gain traction and help push you out. 

Buy Windshield De-Icing Spray: Making sure that you can see out of your windshield is a must. Get an ice scraper if you don’t already have and buy a container of de-icing spray to really get the job done.
